WHY YOUTH OF PRESENT GENERATION DO NOT VENTURE INTO POLITICS? WHY THEY DO NOT WANT TO BE A POLITICIAN IN FUTURE?
While awarding Gold Medals to Best Graduates of different departments in the Annual Convocation of Ravenshaw University in 2008, Former President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam as the Chief Guest of Convocation, wanted to know as to how many gold medalists amongest us intend to be a politician? I was alone to raise the hand, but I was very happy when Dr. Kalam said that though he used to ask this question in all convocations, for the first time he found here one Gold Medalist in our Ravenshaw University who has courage to enter politics. In 2009, I was appointed as the National Secretary of NSUI in a process of Talent Hunt, by facing an interview before a Board, consisting of many people including Sj. Rahul Gandhi. But during my tenure, while working in Tamilnadu, Puduchery, Jharkhand, Daman & Dew, I could know that only the youths, whose parents have a lot of black or white money, and/or having some of their relative(s) in high places of politics, and/or become toys in the hands of mines owners or builders or political heavyweights will succed in politics. People like me, coming from middle class, have no place in present day politics, where money has become very important. Gone those days, when an ordinary youth was aspiring to rise to helm of affairs by his talent and hard labor. Now a day, in every political party, the feudal attitude is dominating. Instead of knowledge and merit, youth having costly car, heavy gold chains and breslets, etc. are succeeding to impress big bosses in politics. Patriotism, which was craze of youth in last century, has been replaced by corporate styles. Now, no leader has patience to listen a common youth or student, unless his parents have any social status and money. In this situation, it is not possible for the common youths of present generation to join politics.
